Childhood sweethearts Himani and Sharad who first met during their teenage years while attending the same tuition classes defied all odds and orchestrated a colorful home-based mehndi function that had them taking a stroll down memory lane. While the COVID-19 pandemic has scattered the wedding plans of many couples, this duo found their silver lining and with sheer resilience ensured that their home garden was converted into a beautiful venue that paved the way for countless joyful memories.

When quizzed about her decision to host her bridal mehndi at home, Himani shares, “For us, moving the bridal mehndi to our home was a natural process. Home is actually one of those places that has seen every bit of our lives. From my childhood to my adulthood, these walls have encased so many memories. Every corner speaks out to us as it reflects a part of our personalities. Marriage being one of the most important moments of our life, rang synonymous with my home. Hence, we decided to relive and create happy memories within a home that has held such a cherished place in my life.”

And, when it came to her own bridal mehndi, Himani made sure no stone was left unturned with colorful decor that echoed her vivacious personality. Giving an in-depth description of the decor and the planning that went behind her mehndi ceremony, the happy bride shares, “To set the mood right, we adorned the tree branches in our garden with bright marigold garlands and quirky katputlis. In order to complement the vibrant blooms, we put up pink, peach, and white hued drapes that allowed everyone to play peek-a-boo with the sunlight. Starting from the main house entrance, which was converted into an upper stage, it led to the garden which was the lower stage. Each part of the outdoor space was used to its fullest potential. The decor also included a stunning waterfall, seating arrangements in the form of traditional diwans and mudis, bright single-seater yellow chairs, and selfie points customized to reflect the theme of the function. Last but not the least, sparkling fairy lights and a chandelier transformed the entire venue into a well-lit space that exuded magical vibes.

And, to stand out amidst the colorful decor, I donned a pastel sea-green lehenga which in hindsight contrasted beautifully with the rest of the decor.”

Sharing her experience to aid anyone who’s keen on executing a home-based wedding function in this unprecedented lockdown, Himani shares, “Weddings, no matter where one hosts them, automatically become a happy occasion because of the emotions that go into it. In my case, having a function at home was very comforting since communication and co-ordination were easier, which in turn, made the whole process of planning less exhausting and let me enjoy each moment of the function.”
